Gourmandise is the hearty enjoyment of fine food and drinks and while a gourmand is a connoisseur, they are open to a much broader range of foods and preparations than the haute cuisine to which gourmets normally limit themselves.
I love fine food and drinks and am an avid cook but I'm very much a gourmand as opposed to a gourmet (also known as a Foodie). Here in Denver, we foodies are very fortunate to have a vibrant array of options available to us - from gastropubs to gourmet shops to quaint little farmers markets.
Gourmandise is bigger than just eating and drinking though. Enthusiasm for eating and drinking is certainly part of it, but it's also about having a zeal for social living; a gusto and appetite for life.
